One of the photographers:
I have had the good fortune to cover and photograph a number of college and professional sporting events. This is fun for me because I appreciate the strength, beauty, and emotion that athletes exhibit. When I was asked to cover the USDGA event, I did not know what the “D” stood for. After watching the tournament, I don’t think you need the “D” in the organization’s name. What I saw were a number of extremely talented golfers putting everything they had into a championship event. If you look at this photo of Chad: https://www.roadwinphotos.com/Client/Visit-Richmond-VA/USGDA-Championship-51619/i-CqWPwKL/A I see a golfer every bit as intense as Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson were at the end of the PGA Tournament.
What I truly appreciated was the balance of competition and compassion the competitors had for each other. On the playoff hole, Chad and Chris were intent on winning. As soon as it was over there were handshakes, hugs, and smiles. I can only imagine that comes from the shared love of the game, and the shared pursuit of overcoming whatever obstacles have been placed in your way. When I got home I told my wife that I really felt great at being a part of that event. It is wonderful to see people appreciate each other for bringing out the best in their competitors and friends.
